Opening ceremony of the Fourth ASEAN Smart Cities Network Annual Meeting

The fourth annual meeting of the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) would be held in the form of videoconference on August 30 with the participation of 26 member cities, representatives from ASEAN countries, the ASEAN Secretariat and partners; representatives of the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction, and 03 cities (Ha noi, Da nang and Ho Chi Minh city).

ASCN members would discuss and adopt several important documents on developing an ASCN information portal and set of investment tools for sustainable smart cities in ASEAN. Those documents would help strengthen the network’s operation and create a solid foundation for cooperation between the network and its partners. The meeting also updated on the development of smart cities in the network and shared experience in responding to the Covid 19 pandemic; discussed with partners the contribution of ideas on cooperation in promoting the realisation of smart cities.

The national representative of Vietnam attended the videoconference at the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction.

Mr Le Hoang Trung – Deputy Director of Urban Development Department had a speech to overview on ASCN activities in 2020 and development of Vietnam smart cities.  

The 3rd Annual Meeting of the ASEAN Smart Cities Network 2020 with the participation of 10 national representatives, 25 member cities of ASCN and 06 external partners approved the documents of the ASCN and shared practical experience on smart city development. Documents were adopted at the Meeting such as: monitoring and evaluation framework for ASEAN smart city network; the regulatory framework for cooperation between the ASCN and external partners; expanding ASCN members; smart city development activities throughout the Network towards development and prosperity.

In particular, "ASEAN Smart Cities Forum and Exhibition 2020" chaired by senior leaders of Vietnam as an important event to attract a large number of managers, representatives of ministries, branches, localities, scientists, businesses, domestic and international organizations with more than 1,500 guests; 200 online guests; 40 national and international speakers; 35 enterprises and 70 media units.

Mr Le Hoang Trung and delegates attended the videoconference.

On behalf of leaders of the Ministry of Construction, Mr. Le Hoang Trung also thanked ASCN member cities, external partners for supporting Vietnam to fulfill its responsibilities in 2020 ASCN President year. Vietnam would cooperate and actively participate in activities of the ASCN towards quality of life, human progress and sustainable national development.
