Many representatives from Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Construction, professional associations, institutes, universities and researchers of VIUP participated on the conference. On the Cuban side, Cuban Ambassador in Vietnam Herminio Lopez Diaz, economic counselor Loida Rivera Fabré as well as Cuban specialists from Physical Planning Institute and VIUP’s partners from Hansen Partnership Company Ltd. also attended in the conference.
The purposes of the conference were to introduce the initial research results of the two institutes on existing situation and international experience of coastal public space planning and management in Vietnam’s tourism cities as well as the international experiences, especially Cuban experiences on planning, management and protection of coastal public space in response to climate change and increase of community approach ability. This was also an opportunity for the research group to collect the opinions from specialists, managers to create and finish the research content of the project.
The specialists from Physical Planning Institute presented the international experiences in public space projects and coastal walkways in Spain. These projects are friendly to the pedestrian. These projects concentrate on diversification in use, green space, sculptural works. Beside this, Cuban specialists also introduced their domestic planning projects.
At the conference, architect Nguyen Hong Diep had a presentation on existing situation of coastal public space planning and management in some Vietnam’s tourism cities. Mr. Craig Czarny and Mr. Lawrie Wilson (Hansen Partnership company Ltd.) had a speech on urban design in the coastal area.
Cuban Ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz highly appreciated the meaning of the project. He said that Vietnam and Cuba have many common points in coastal public space planning. The project’s content is important and interesting that Cuban specialists can learn about. He hoped the quality of the project and result of the cooperation expressed through this conference. He wishes in the coming time, other opportunities and potentials will be opened between Cuba and Vietnam in general and between Vietnam Institute for Urban and Rural Planning and Physical Planning Institute in particular.
